My wife and I enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Erie Café on our last visit to the Windy City.  The food was delicious, and the service was without fault.  Our host that day was Larry Lenzi.  He was good enough to give us a tour of the facilities.  We found his repartee refreshingly charismatic, yet didactic and superfluous and would enjoy hearing his candor again sometime.  If you continue your standard of excellence you will endure beyond the Gene & Georgetti legacy and give new meaning to the word hospitality.

This is the place that we always take guests from out-of town.  We have enjoyed the garbage salad, fried calamari, veal chops and of course the steaks.  The waiters taught our son about "butterflied" filet mignon well done and he has ordered it wherever he goes.  We will be dining again with family from the Twin Cities who wanted to eat " big meat".  There was only one choice.  The Erie Café.

Just a quick note to tell you what a marvelous dinner we had this past  weekend.  The food was superb, the service extremely attentive.  In fact, if I had only one suggestion it would be to turn the lights down a bit and add a bit of ambience.  Truly a memorable evening and we'll be back!

I have eaten here twice in the last 3 weeks and both times the meal was excellent.  The broiled strip bone-in and the filet mignon steaks were excellent.  They were perfectly prepared and generous in size.  I was especially pleased with the flavor of the house salad dressing.  It is flavorful but light and subtle- not overdone or overpowering as many Italian dressings are.  The onion rings from the appetizer section were extremely tasty featuring a slightly sweet taste that left us coming back for more.  The onion rings were not too greasy and the breading was light enough to allow the flavor of the onion to emerge.  Other appetizers I have sampled are the grilled calamari and the fried ravioli with Blue Cheese.  The calamaris were served covered with a little tomato sauce that contained a little bite to it.  I highly recommend this appetizer.  The Fried ravioli with blue cheese is a must for any blue cheese lover.  I happen to love blue cheese and I thouroly enjoyed the dish.  The cottage fries are an acceptable side to the steaks but pale in comparison to the rest of the menu items we ordered.  An interesting twist to the cottage fries is to ask the kitchen to melt some blue cheese over the top of them.  This becomes a little rich after a few but it is an excellent compliment to the steaks.  The Erie Café is now my favorite recommendations for steaks in Chicago.
